Having previously looked at the Astroid Layout section. Its integration with Joomla. And some of the Astroid features it brings to the table. It is now time to look at Widgets in more detail. Widgets for Astroid are small inconspicuous elements that punch way above their weight. They are easy to add to your Joomla Site via the Astroid Layout section and have a multitude of configuration options that really help take your site to the next level. In this Video Tutorial we only scratch the surface. Attempting to understand the basic principles of how Widgets work. 

We start by looking at a Typography Widgets, specifically a header Widget and some of the typical text formatting features that are available. Then we look at two examples of Utility Widgets. The Button Widget. And a Grid Widget. With respect to the Button Widget we look at some of the configuration options for buttons and even add our own custom button. Lastly we look at the Grid Widget. Again looking at some basic. configuration options and going the extra mile adding an Icon and Image of our own.

I started making this set of Tutorials based on the Astroid Two Template about four months ago. At the time I was on Astroid 3.0.11. In the meantime Astroid new features have been coming out at a “breathtaking speed.” In particular Widgets have seen a lot of love in recent months. As of writing Astroid 3.1.1 is the latest and greatest version of Astroid. With undoubtedly more updates around the corner. This is why I tack an Appendix of sorts on to the end of this video Tutorial. Specifically covering some of the new Widgets options such as assigning widgets to different pages with in the Layout section of a template. Whilst this method is not used specifically with the Two Template I am including for Holistic reasons.
